Southern California is currently battling multiple wildfires, including the Sandy Fire in Ventura County, the Santa Rosa Island Fire, and several others across the region.
The Sandy Fire, which began on May 18 in Simi Valley, has burned 1,698 acres and is 15% contained.
The Santa Rosa Island Fire, the largest active wildfire in California, has consumed over 16,900 acres since May 15 and destroyed two historic structures, with containment at 26%.

Why It's Important?

The wildfires have led to widespread evacuations, road closures, and air quality concerns across Southern California. The Sandy Fire has disrupted local communities, forcing school closures and prompting an air quality alert. The Santa Rosa Island Fire has destroyed historic structures, while the Bain, Verona, and Tusil fires have necessitated evacuations in their respective regions. Smoke from the fires poses visibility hazards on roadways, and civilian drone activity has hampered firefighting efforts. The ongoing Santa Ana winds and warm weather are complicating containment efforts, increasing the risk of fire spread.
